Once there existed a chemical testing lab within Illinois.
The building itself was that of a factory, re-purposed to contain something else,
or at least the workers there believed it to be so.
The lab had a sign placed above its entrance, once the name of the old factory, now spray-painted a different name over it.
Camellia Laboratories.
The workers there never fully knew what they were doing, a sense of vagueness hovered above them, an all encompassing aura that always somewhat hindered their work.
That being said, their work was never good.
They were never satisfied with it.
The job was to make chemicals - each chemical drastically different than the rest - to send out,
yet they had an issue.
A heavy filter of old built up chemicals was placed by a rivaling factory within their production pipes.
Only very fine chemicals could pass through, and they were watered down by the process, making them near unusable.
The workers tried to break down this filter, but it would never budge;
until it did.
Out of the void, one day, the filter had a crack which some of the chemicals were flowing through.
It wasn't much, but it was progress. The only issue was that no workers knew how it occurred.
They began to re-watch the security footage, but it was too hazy for them to see anything that injured it.
Even if it was random, it gave them a sense of hope.
Something could do it.
They made a certain division specifically for researching the event and what had caused it. External factories (and laboratories) tried to help, and they made the most progress.
Camellia Laboratories decided to help those factories and labs, having frequent meetings to discuss each others problems, and trying to fix them together.
After all, a group is better than one.
Eventually, the mist of uncertainty began to clear up slightly.
It became clear to them now that it was coming from the filter.
The filter seemed to be the stem of all of their problems, but even it had a stem in other places.
Their research on their chemicals began exceeding their wildest expectations, and more injuries on the filter started to appear.
It was good.
The chemicals they discovered were astounding in every way to them, and they were happy to finally have them.
Worry, the first one discovered. It took a blue hue and clustered together, making it extremely difficult to fit through the filter. Though, it was extremely potent when it did, seeming to remain extremely pure (compared to their standards) even when watered down by the filter.
Joy. According to their deductions, it appears that either it is very weak before passing through the filter or is extremely affected by it. It clusters together in a solid mass easily, and is extremely weak when it passes through the filter.
Doubt. Doubt appears to cause the aura of uncertainty around the workplace, as well as composing a theoretical total of 29% of the filter. Known for combining with other chemicals, and almost never leaving the filter unless it has combined with another chemical. Extremely worrying to employees.
Dysphoria, a very odd chemical. It has two varieties, which are classified as Unease and Gender Dysphoria. Unease is extremely light and fluid, making it through the filter with ease, although not being very potent. Gender Dysphoria's existence is not confirmed due to a possible near-certainty of mixing with Doubt and high amounts of clustering into large forms, but varies in potency seemingly dependently on the amount of Doubt it has fused with. Gender Dysphoria appears to leave an odd after-effect (see Serenity for more details). Further research into Gender Dysphoria is on-going.
Serenity is one of the most common chemicals to make it through the filter, being a pastel green in color. It almost never clumps together and is usually somewhat potent, and occasionally comes hand in hand with areas that have made contact with Gender Dysphoria.
Anger is a vibrant red chemical that seems to solidify in groups with ease, typically never leaving the filter. When it does, it tends to bright a small amount of Doubt with it, making researchers uncertain if the chemical is actually Anger. Anger tends to be extremely weak.
Disgust is the newest discovered chemical, which rarely leaves the filter. This is theorized to be to clumping, though it is possible that certain chemical activity triggers a reaction within in that causes it to shrink or liquidate while normally it is large or solid. It takes a gross green tint and feels hollow to the touch, and is described as "astoundingly repulsive".
Embarrassment is only formed during specific chemical movements, usually flowing through the filter with ease. It is one of the most potent chemicals but personnel tend to avoid creating it due to the fact that it is described as similar to Disgust on contact except "less disgusting" and "more repulsive". This has been observed to create a new sub-chemical known as Cringe, which is theorized to be the origin of the Disgust-esque effect.
Nervousness is an uncommon chemical that rarely ever is seen outside of the filter, but is extremely potent. It takes a softer blue tone that matches well with the feeling it induces.
Hope is a very situational chemical that has been known to be created by chemical reactions related to the damaging of the filter, but is likely created by other chemical changes. While not very potent, it does take a glowing orange color that is very visible.
Love is a rare chemical that is released exclusively during meetings with other laboratories and factories. Before the re-branding of the factory that Camellia Labs is based out of it was documented in great by employees, but since the addition of the filter to the chemical systems it has rarely ever been observed, even pre-filter.
Fear is an abnormal chemical that takes a dark black tone, having a medium potency and frequently passing through the filter. It is known for attaching itself to Doubt, or following it, though not fusing with it. Fear is evidently more commonly created during the night.
Dissatisfaction, an extremely common chemical, is created by residue of Self-Doubt (a previously undocumented state of Doubt that occasionally occurs when in contact with a researcher), usually causing researchers it makes contact with to under-go Boredom (a sub-chemical reaction that causes an unpleasant neutrality in a researcher) and dislike the work/project they are currently creating/doing.
Sadness is an extremely weak chemical, lacking in both potency and frequency. It usually forms a bond with Doubt, Dysphoria, and Worry, attaching itself to them on contact. Though, despite this, when it reaches the filter it tends to either be watered down to the point of total ineffectiveness or just doesn't make it through at all. It tends to take a dark blue hue.
Pride, one of the oddest chemicals, is a orange-esque semi-gaseous liquid that frequently attaches itself in extremely small amounts to other chemicals. It has a high rate of fusing with Doubt, and as such is extremely hard to study - though, research has determined that it has low potency but high frequency via attachment rate to other chemicals.
Anticipation is a soft orange chemical that is common to pass through the filter when no other chemicals are attempting to pass through it. Notably, anticipation seems to attempt to imitate the movement of other chemicals (albeit these attempts are often grossly inaccurate, often times not even resembling the other chemicals movement at all), though it does not produce the same effect on researchers as the chemicals it imitates. This is presumed to be due to it attempt to "predict" the movements of these chemicals.
Envy is the hardest to research chemical as it has the highest rate of fusion with Doubt, although current research indicates that it has low potency and low frequency. The reason for its high rate of fusion with Doubt is unknown, though it's possible that its due to its low potency.
Further research into chemicals is on-going at Camellia Labs.
