The name of the Undercommon language stems from both the land of its origin, referred to as the Underdark, and as a variant of the trading language "Common". It is utilized as a trade language within the Underdark, and as such not very frequently the dominant language of inhabitants. Despite this, some species do primarily (sometimes even exclusively) speak Undercommon.
